Finding A Cure, Together. What does this mean? It means working as one collective group seeking to eradicate whatever your particular cause or affliction is. To me, it means having a life beyond the age of 49 in which I can live disease free.
There are so many different organizations working on this disease, how do you know which one to contribute your hard earned money to? You must do your due diligence and educate yourself. There are so many avenues you can choose. I can't and won't suggest any particular one. That is a private decision. I think if you"re going to get involved, and you should get involved, it is imperative that you are educated about the path in which you are about to take.
Parkinson's is growing; it seems on a daily if not hourly basis. I can understand why I am asked on a regular basis "why does it seem Parkinson's is spreading or growing?" My answer is always the same. I'm not sure if it really is actually growing. With Michael J. Fox and Mohammad Ali bringing a high profile awareness to the general public, it may just be now it is being looked at more carefully. More research funding is needed and as that funding is allocated by the largest organization in the world, the United States Federal Government, it is my strongest and most sincere hope and desire a cure will be found within the next 10 years.
I have an idea and want to share it with everybody: Is it possible that for one moment all of the different organizations in the world were able to work together? Can you see it? Imagine if everyone contributed $1.00 per person and then the United States Federal Government matched that total. Now imagine all of the Governments of the world matching that total. Can you see it? Stay with me! Now imagine what we can cure!!!! If we can imagine, shouldn't it be possible?
It is that sort of paradigm shift or thinking out side of the box that will push all of us to work just a little harder, just a little smarter and just a little more creatively. This is the defining essence of helping each other regardless of race, creed or religion. This is not a political issue. This is a "Human Issue". This way of thinking is the basis and the lifeline for a fundamentally "old" way of thinking. Thinking from the heart and not from the bottom line is who I am and who all of us should be. That is...Finding a Cure, Together.
